ToAU seems to have quite an oriental flair, why?

Vana'diel does not only have nations spread across Quon continent or Mindartia continent, the main stage of the story: it also contains many other nations, each of them with their own culture.
We wanted you to experience a new culture which was like nothing which had previously existed on the continent. We used the key elements of “adventure” and ‘treasure” to guide our vision and bring you this new world you see in front of you.

What will be the abilities of the Puppetmaster’s puppet and how can they be used? Is it possible to compare the puppet with a BST’s pet or a SMN’s summon?

The puppet (=automaton) that the puppetmaster uses is made out of three parts: “Head”, “Frame (Body)” and “Attachment”. At the beginning, there will only be standard head and frame, but there will be different types of automaton, specializing in close combat or magic, for example.
There is no cost for the upkeep of the automaton, and it won’t disappear after a given period of time (as is the case with Beastmaster’s pets).
When you want your automaton to attack an enemy, you can choose which target to attack. However, unlike a summon’s “Blood Pact” you can’t command which Magic or which ability to use. However, using a maneuver command will cause the automaton to give priority to actions that correspond to that maneuver's element.

Which abilities is the BLU going to learn? Will every mobs ability be available or only a certain amount? And in which areas is he going to get them, every zone or only in certain areas?

Not all abilities from monsters are learnable as blue magic.The only way of finding which abilities can be learned is by playing.
Learnable abilities aren’t limited by area, but you only get a chance to acquire blue magic when you defeat a monster that has used a learnable special ability.

The BLU is holding a sword at the pictures, unlike other mages that use a club or a staff. Will the BLU be able to fight in close combat too?

To use  blue magic, Blue Mages need to “set” the spells they want to use. There areThe maximum number of blue magic spells that can be set at one time. The method has been devised so that Blue Mages’ actions vary depending on which blue magic they have been set to use. Some Blue Mages will possibly be good at close combat.

Could you tell us a little bit more about the Corsair?

Corsairs use abilities that cause various effects depending on dice rolls. With Phantom Roll, you receive the most beneficial effects if the sum of the two rolls equals a certain number. However, if you roll higher than that, you would take a "bust" penalty. Some of the bonus effects we are working on include whether every party member can earn Double Attack for a short time if a warrior is in the party, and whether fellow adventurers can earn a critical hit bonus if a thief is present. Perhaps if a black mage is in the party you could earn a magic attack bonus.
The corsair has another ability likely to be called Quick Draw. With this ability the corsair uses cards belonging to the different elements. When a card is used, the corsair draws his gun and fires, converting the damage of the gun to enfeeble the enemy. The corsair might possibly also have an abililty that reduces recast wait time.

Are there going to be new areas that could compare to sky/sea or something like new Dynamis Areas?

We are planning to unlock the new areas one by one with future updates. We are mainly considering creating areas for high-level players to occupy such as Dynamis.

Are there any upcoming changes to the fishing system and will we get new fishes with ToAU?

We will keep on making adjustments to the main fishing system, but we have no plans for any major changes. As you can see from our recent updates, we tend not to change the actual fishing system, but rather focus on adding additional functions which use the same system (such as Fish Ranking, fishing quests. From now on, expansion of the fishing system will be of this type.
At the same time, we will step up our actions against players using Bot or Cheet Tools, as well as working on the differences between clients. Regarding adding new fish: we would just like to say that you may hear some rumours among adventurers that there are some areas with their own indigenous fish, as well as many sub-species.

Can we expect some changes in the crafting sytem? Will there be new Crafts  and will we be able to specialise the crafting, like you’re a smith, and now you can decide if you want to specialize in armor smithing or if you want to specialize in weapon smithing?

We are not planning to make any fundamental changes to the crafting system, as with the fishing system. We won’t deny that there may be new crafting skills, but we don’t have any specific plans for now. This applies to specialising the craft skills, too.
However, should many players actively want this type of change, we may seriously consider future development plans in this direction (as is the case for Chocobo Raising).

Don’t you think that Chocobos are in comparison to their size quite slow? Is the Chocobo going to get a speed boost in the future? Rumours say that you will be able to breed Chocobos. If yes, will we be able to breed a faster Chocobo?

lol  Yes, we understand your feeling, "Chocobos are slow!" However, that is probably because the movement doesn’t look like a quick motion and because your view is from slightly higher up. We therefore don’t have any current or future plans to make them any faster. Regarding the Chocobo Raising, it is true as we announced this at the Fan Festival in America. How are the Chocobos going to turn out....? Well, it’s a secret for now. Look forward to it!

Why wont there be mini-games like a chocobo race against other players or something like a mini casino where you can get items (like Golden Saucer in Final Fantasy VII)

Once we add Chocobo Raising to the game, the next plan will be to introduce Chocobo Racing. We believe you will get a lot of enjoyment out of making your own chocobo to participate in races. We are planning to make Chocobo Racing enjoyable not only for players who have raised their own chocobo, but also for those who haven't raised chocobos yet – by letting them be active spectators to the game. (Can you bet? It is quite obvious, isn't it?) 

Would it be possible to adjust the drop rates of HNM’s and Dynamis so that they are going to drop more often?

You should consider the ability of equipment to be in inverse proportion to its drop rate. In particular, the percentage of equipment you can get by HNM or Dynamis is decided by careful calculation. It will be difficult to get them, but we wish you good luck!

Will we ever get a description of the stats, how they connect with each other and what affects them?

Everyone knows that certain stats connect with each other. Like VIT gives more Defense, STR gives more Attack and so on. But how do they really connect, how much VIT is going to raise defense by (for example) 1 point.
What effect and how do stats changes affect the different abilities.. like is there something that "strengthens/weakens" "Provoke" ... or the duration and effectiveness of "Charm"
“What kind of effect do statistics have?” or “Which stats affect which abilities?” are some of your main interests, we believe.
However, if we disclose all the details to you, we think that will lead us to spoil your fun.
Still, if we keep them all secret, you won’t be able to discuss or analyse anything. Therefore, we would like to give you a brief explanation of statistics.
Connection between DEX and accuracy:
Along with the calculation of accuracy, (DEX/2) is added as a bonus.
Connection between AGI and ranged accuracy:
Along with the calculation of ranged accuracy, (AGI/2) is added as a bonus.
Connection between STR and attack:
Along with the calculation of ranged attack, (STR/2) is added as a bonus.
Connection between AGI and evasion:
Along with the calculation of evasion, (AGI/2) is added as a bonus.
Connection between VIT and defence:
Along with the calculation of defence, (VIT/2) is added as a bonus.
Defence mainly depends on the defence status of the equipment. Other attributes are more affected by your current skill level. 
Regarding “Which status affects which ability”, there would be so many abilities if we listed them all and again, it would spoil your fun. So we would like to make comments only for the examples you mention in your question.
- Provoke-related status 
  There is no status related to “Provoke”.
  However, if a level 1 character and a level 50 character use “Provoke” at the same time, per design the level 50 character will have the upper hand.
- Charm-related status
 Status related to the length and effect of “Charm” is CHR.
    The effects of the equipment saying “Charm + ***” will also have an effect on “Charm”.
    CHR affects the success percentage and “Charm + ***” affects the duration of the effect.

Will there be Quests installed like the Artefact Armour Quests  where you’ll get special Artefact Equipment especially for your job, like rings, necklaces, belts,…?

This is certainly a possibility, but we don’t have any information that we can confirm at the moment.

Will we get the possibility to strengthen the Artifact Armor or to add an effect (like enchanted items … unlimited uses but only available once an hour)? This could be done after a quest where your AF gets the ability, or you need to use a special item (gained through a quest, NM-fight, …) and then this ability will be unlocked.

There are already some ways to strengthen the Artifact Armor. However, there aren’t any items with enchanting effects such as the one you mentioned in your question. We can’t disclose our future plans, but with the Treasure of Aht Urhgan, there will be some types of equipment that have new abilities which are different from enchanting.

Will we get the possibility to learn new abilities when hitting the highest level? For example a second 2-hour ability, or an extension/adjustment of the normal 2-hour ability (like PLD’s Invincible lasts twice as long)

For the players over level 75, they can grow their characters by using the merit point system. By using these merit points, we are planning to enable you to learn new abilities. What sort of abilities can you learn? Please look forward to the day when we add it!

Will there be an update to the graphic engine for PC players or are you at least considering to change something in the near future?

We keep upgrading not only the graphic engine, but also all program systems. However, we’re very careful to keep compatibility with the required environment going back to 3 years ago. As our policy, as long as it is the same title, we don’t want to force existing players to upgrade their environment such as purchasing new high-end machines. We will keep working hard to improve and expand the game’s quality as much as possible, but we’re very careful to choose what to do regarding upgrading at the same time, as this might affect our development speed sometimes. Until now, we’ve improved our engine to accept wide-screen displays, 3D display function, options for upper spec PCs on the Windows version. But currently we do not have any plans to use next-generation technologies which may require re-creating all graphic data. If we chose to do this with FFXI, it would take a few years to complete upgrading. So we’ve decided to use our development powers to create a new, next-generation MMORPG. Until then, we will keep having version-updates and expansion packs for FFXI as we’ve always done.

How exactly will this „European Language Patch“ affect the Final Fantasy XI players? Are the English names going to stay the same or are they too going to be translated? Or is this going to affect only missons, quests, storys, …?

Those names you can target, such as monsters' names, will remain in English. The names of items will be translated into each language. This is to prevent miscommunication between players by calling different names or using macros. User interfaces and NPC messages will be translated. In brief, the words that are in English with Japanese clients from the beginning will be the same in every localised version. Also, we are considering the possibility to use the Auto-translate Function.

The players of the xbox360 beta version are now able to transfer their character to another world. Will there be some reward for those long time players on the normal servers, that paid the whole time for the game? Something like a month for free or a special in game item?

You are able to login from Xbox 360 by using your Windows account; you are only entitled to one month free trial period if you create a new account using the registration code found with your Xbox 360 version. The Xbox 360 version includes the Treasure of Aht Urhgan, so you can enjoy your adventure in the new area straight away.

Will there be more events that are directed by GMs, like for example the Wedding Ceremony? And will we Europeans be finally able to really participate in them? (Due to the difference between the time zones it is quite hard to do that now … the first wedding date available is when it’s 11PM o’clock in Germany)

At the moment, we don't have any plans to add daily in-game events which will be held by the GMs. Regarding weddings specifically, we are currently considering plans to add more time slots or change the time schedule so that European players can participate more easily.

Will there be something like the Fan Festivals in Europe (and especially Germany) in the near future, or will this event only take place in the USA?

It might be difficult to hold events of the same size as the Fan Festival in Europe, because of some differences between regions. Still, we are carefully looking into the possibilities to hold events that will suit each country. Also, we would like to announce that we will be at GC 2006 and are currently planning exciting events for our fans. We are looking forward to seeing you all in Leipzig!

Will there be any more add-ons? Whith maybe new jobs?

We haven't decided anything about the new disc, but as long as we operate the game we believe we will continuously release expansion discs. We will consider new jobs accordingly, but since we have just added three new jobs, we think the battle style will change depending on how these jobs grow. Therefore we won’t be adding any other new jobs for the moment while we see how things progress.

Is there anything you want to tell our community and the Final Fantasy XI fans?

It has been four years since we started our service and we still have around 500,000 people playing the game every day. We really appreciate it. We will continuously add on new fun elements as quickly can. So, we hope you will continue to enjoy the game!
